1. Introduction
Learning and development is considered a really good toll
used to meeting skill requirements, Improving the culture in the workplace, and
improving the employee engagement and the rate of employee retention.
Furthermore, pushing more cash on learning and development is nowadays being
used as one of the best methods for organizations to improve the ROI and
profit. According to Deloitte, The best trend in Human Capital can be considered
as new skill development.

2. What is Learning and Development?
Learning and development can be considered as the continuous
process of inspiring the employees to pursue opportunities to develop
professionally. This revolves around analyzing gaps in skills in the
organization and identifying training opportunities for specific knowledge areas
and skills that will empower the employees in order to perform better. This can
be achieved by offering various training courses, learning online, mentoring,
and activities to develop skills. Success can be achieved by individual
behavior development, knowledge sharing and attitude cultivating that will drive
employees to improve performance.
Trends in Learning and development will focus mainly on employee
upskill and reskill in order to ensure that they can perform new roles within
the company or improve performance in their current duties. Training will also
cultivate new skills in leadership in order to groom them for potential promotions
in the future. This will assist the company in acquiring, nurturing, maximizing
and retaining talent whin the organization. This will also improve employee
satisfaction levels, improve the experience of the employee and reduce the employee
turnover rate.
3. What is Learning and Development in HR
Learning and Development is one of the most important responsibilities
of the HR department of any company. Implementing different initiatives that
look into the development of employees at all levels in the organization is
normally the one of the HR Manager’s responsibilities. I most large companies,
the Employee Development Plan might be managed by a designated person or team
within the HR department. In some organizations the COO or the Operations
Manager are involved in the Learning and Development Process.
Irrelevant of the method you select to manage the Learning
and Development process in the organization, HR and Learning and Development
must work together. The reason for this is that there is a certain level of overlap
within both areas. For example, both will deal with managing people, managing
employee performance, planning succession, managing changes.
The main difference between the two will be that
professional in HR with many different responsibilities such as payroll
processing, recruitment and management of relationships with employees. In
contrast, when it comes to Learning and Development, their main focus will be
on one specific role which is the professional growth and development of skills
of employees. This will include the identification of gaps in training and the
development of training initiatives for employees which are in line with the overall
strategy adopted in the organization by HR.
4. Creating an HR Learning and Development Strategy
A ‘’One size fits all’ strategy cannot be used for the
Learning and Development Process. Each company would need its own strategy,
another company’s strategy may not always work. The organization’s strategy
will mainly depend on the identified training requirements and the roles
available in your organization. The size of the organization will also play a
key role.
However, it does not matter which industry or organization
size, there are some best practices you must look into when preparing and
implementing the strategy for Learning and Development. The following are some
of the best practices you can follow:
- Analyzing the training requirements.
- Define the Learning and Development material and methods.
- Adapt to Mobile Learning.
- Utilization of technology in order to personalize the learning experience.
- Measurement of the effects of Learning and Development on Business Performance.
- Monitoring and evaluating the Learning and Development strategy.
- Initiate Learning and Development as an ongoing process.
5. Impact of Learning and Development in the
Workplace

Development Process in the Organization:
